NETFLIX – Eurovision 2019
Spain Never Forgets
It’s become a tradition for Netflix to release each year a special spot for Spain’s participation in Eurovision, the singing contest, in which they happen to loose every time. The spot mocks of everything: the participants, the contest and also their own series. Spanish fan’s love it and wait anxiously for the release!
This year it was Money Heist (La Casa de Papel)´s series turn and Netflix had the idea of including some, if not all, the former contests that have lost in the past years.

Original Scene
The Perfect Crime
The main concept is based on recreating an iconic scene from Money Heist (La Casa de Papel)´s first season where the former contestants will be “performing” as themselves and not impersonating the series characters as it happens usually.
It was the opportunity for what we though it was the perfect crime, explore the notion of hyper reality by killing the series. In this case, reality had died out, losing its value. So we were looking forward to shape this new reality, built on the dead body “the original”.
New Significances
We needed it to build a meticulous reduplicate of the series to achieve this so it was very important that the set, the art direction, lighting and photography be as closest as possible to “the original” as well as accompanying it with new signs and significance. So we created a set of documents, photos and lots of knick-knacks from each contestant for each specific take, bringing multiple layers of information to the piece.
You are no longer looking at Money Heist (La Casa de Papel) anymore you are looking at something else. We killed the series, the perfect crime as Jean Beaudrillard pointed out! Originality becomes a totally meaningless concept.
At the end you are left only with the simulacrum, through simulation.
